Chapter 1
Dull, hot, and sweaty. That's how it was today. I was sitting on my bed, reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I was waiting for my letter to come from Professor McGonagall. So was my brother, Felix. Then I had had enough. "Come on!" I said aloud, as though that would make the owl come. I was pureblood, and wasn't boasting, about it though. I thought it wasn't fair if someone called you a mudblood because you were muggleborn. Then suddenly something flew through the window.
"About time!" I said impatiently. I unrolled the letter, and quickly read all what spell books and stuff to get. One thing I was nervous about going to Hogwarts was the sorting. What if I was sorted into Slytherin? But pushed that thought away. I was probably going to be put into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. My mum had been put in Hufflepuff and dad in Gryffindor. I guess Ravenclaw would be all right as well. I knew all about the sorting and stuff, and what happens at hogwarts because mum and dad had told me of course. I stroked the owl, and I was sure that I was going to get one in Diagon Alley. I had considered cats, but what could they do for you? Owls were really useful, sending letters and everything. Rats were cute, but I still didn't want one. And a toad. Nope. Definitely not. I'm not being mean or anything, but I had to admit they were dumb. Then I heard someone running up the stairs. My door burst open, and in came Felix, panting, and saying loudly, "Anna, Anna! I got my letter from Professor Mitchel -"
"Professor McGonagall," I corrected him. "She's not a boy. Mitchel's a boy's name."
"Okay, okay! But I actually got a letter! Really cool, eh?"
I rolled my eyes. "It's actually a boring -"
"And the owl was so cool, and I actually got to touch it!" Felix went on, as though he hadn't heard me.
"Okay, wow. Can I please get past you, I've got to ask mum if she can take me to Diagon Alley," I said, and rushed down the stairs.
"Anna, there you are. Did you get your letter? Felix did, and was very excited about it," said mum.
"Yes, I know, he was, very. But mum, can you take me and Felix to Diagon Alley to get our stuff?"
"Sure, but have lunch first, said mum, pointing to the table.
I sat down, and munched hungrily on a piece of bread. I was feeling very light and happy now, suddenly not feeling sweaty from the heat of the day. I was actually going to go to Hogwarts!
