Lesson 4: Transformation Theory

Chapter 4
~Transformations

-Transfiguration branch which changes the shape or appearance of an object
-Changes object by changing its molecular structure, sometimes releasing particles into the air
-This year we'll focus on inanimate to inanimate transformations

~How to Cast a Transfiguration Spell

-Transfiguration is an exact and precise scientific branch of magic
-Static Spells: Effects are immediate and singular after casting
-Dynamic Spells: Effects can be altered even after casting
-All Transfiguration spells are static
-Almost all transfiguration spells require willpower
-Willpower: The mental "push" which makes the magic flow out of you and gives power to your magic
-Newton's 1st Law: “an object at rest tends to say at rest until acted on by an outside force"
-Willpower is the brawn, concentration is the brains
-Concentration: Centering the mind in order to directly influence the world by magic
-Focus mind on transformation, what you want target to become
-Picture target morphing(becomes harder the more conscious target is)
-Hold concentration until ENTIRE transformation is complete
-Transfigurations between objects with more similarities is easier(e.g. matchstick to needle) and vice versa
-Wand movements small, simple, precise
-Typical movements are jabs and taps as there is no need to excessively strengthen transfiguration spells

~Variations

-You can use variations of the same spell(Ex: Smoke to Dagger)
-Can embellish on existing object with concentration
-Can make anything you can picture clearly
-the harder the image in your mind, the harder the spell is to do

~Assignments

-Extra-credit Variations essay
-Mandatory Theory quiz
