Chapter 6
~Gargoyles

-Not creatures; not alive but resemble life
-Many Gothic buildings include them at the top
-In the Muggle world, they're just fancy statues
-Similar to grotesques
-Gargoyles originally used as protection for buildings to help channel excess water away
-Grotesques purely decorative
-Gargoyles do serve as guardians
-People will sometimes place them by important doors, allowing only authorized people in(most commonly) by means of a password or special enchantments
-Can also just place 1 in front of a door
-Ex: Headmistresses' office
-Quasi-sentient

~Hags

-Sentient
-Look much like humans, supposedly only have 4 toes
-Very pale skin and very basic magic abilities(like brewing potions)
-Don't have a classification because the Ministry considers them beings
-Very strange diet - children and raw liver
-Will also eat other types of meat if desperate
-Famous hags:
Annis Black - lived in cave, most well known for Daily Prophet letter about newspapers portraying hags as flesh-eating monsters
Cordelia Misericordia - lived 1298-1401, representative of hags on Wizards's Council
