You may notice that some of the links to sources of images no longer work.  That's no big deal, because the important thing is that the images are in the lessons.

Astronomy, Muggle and Magical Ever wonder what is beyond this Earth? Yes, the night sky may be beautiful, but knowledge of the heavens can also help you become a better witch or wizard. In Year One Astronomy, you will observe the skies with a magical telescope, learn about our solar system neighbo…
Until recently, most of the advances in the non-magical area of astronomy were made by Muggles, and we witches and wizards learned about their findings second-hand. This lesson will be primarily devoted to the non-magical tools that have aided in these great discoveries, many of which are also used…
Wizards use many Muggle-made tools for observational astronomy, but we also use magic to modify some of those tools to make them more suitable for us. The most important of these modified tools is the magical telescope. There are several brands on the market, but most of them are too expensive for …
Firenze.Source: here Don’t be afraid of the centaur. Yes, the centaurs are a proud race and most of them don’t like the company of humans, possibly because some of the wizards and witches they met weren’t sufficiently respectful to them, but Firenze is an exception. For examp…
During the last class, we briefly discussed the A.M.E. and why it matters. Today, we will go over each part of the A.M.E. individually and discuss the contribution that each part makes to the amount of magic that a non-luminous celestial body reflects towards Earth. Should you be lucky enough to be…
In Lesson Four, we introduced the A.M.E. components and showed why wizards and witches should care about them. In Lesson Five, we described these components in more detail and showed how to compare the amount of light and the amount of magic reflected to the Earth by different non-luminous bodies g…
In this introductory lesson about the solar system, you will learn some facts about the Sun and the planets, which will be discussed in more detail in Year Four. After briefly describing each of the planets, I will show you how various astronomers interpreted their apparent motion in the sky, how t…
In this lesson, we’re going to discuss the bodies in the solar system that are smaller than the planets: comets, meteors, asteroids, and dwarf planets. While these bodies are less influential than the planets, they nevertheless present some interesting magical findings, so without any further…
You will be happy to know that today I’m not going to cram your heads with a lot of facts about astrono … okay, you can stop cheering now. Instead, I’ll discuss just a few of the many astronomers who have had a major influence on the subject. The first three I will discuss are Mu…
NOTE - All the new Year One lessons have been published. All my assignments are open book: you can consult the lessons while doing them, but for some questions the lessons don't contain the answers, only the information that will enable you to deduce the answers, which will require logical thinking. If you have completed the current Year One course, you are not required to do the new one, but it would be advisable to do so, because the material in it will be tested on your O.W.L. exam. If you haven't completed the current course, it's your choice whether or not to do so before the new material is posted.

Ever wonder what is beyond this Earth? Yes, the night sky may be beautiful, but knowledge of the heavens will also help you become a better witch or wizard. In Year One, you will observe the skies with a magical telescope, learn about our solar system neighbors, and discover how magic reflected off astronomical objects can affect us all on Earth. Come join us in Astronomy 101 - it’s an out of this world adventure!
