Karen Maxwell

Backstory

Karen grew up in a mid-sized Midwestern city, the youngest of three children. Growing up, Karen mistakenly believed that because her two siblings were pure blooded, so was Karen. When Karen was around 13 years old, she came home from Ilvermorny for Christmas and spent some time in the attic with her two siblings, shuffling through her family's old belongings. Much to her shock, the three siblings found some old letters that suggested Karen did not share a father with her two siblings. Her biological father was actually muggle-born. Little did Karen know what a massive deal this revelation would be to her family. Her sister began to torment her, threatening to reveal the secret to family friends who were none too kind to the "impure" sort.

Karen's sister had always been a seeker of knowledge for knowledge's sake. During her first three years of school, Karen looked up to her sister with admiration. But as time went on, her sister's interests started to shift toward the Dark Arts. After a heated argument, it was revealed that her sister (now a 7th year at Ilvermorny) had been recruited by an American pure-blood separatist movement intent on finishing what the fallen criminal known as "Lord Voldemort" began in the 90's. Karen began to fear for her safety as her older sister became more and more fanatical in her hatred toward the "other."

Just before the beginning of her fourth year, Karen received a letter stating that her transfer application to Hogwarts had been approved. Karen was very surprised, as she had never made such an application. It turned out that the professors at Hogwarts had learned of her predicament and offered her a sort of asylum. Unfortunately, few of her credits transferred, and she found herself on a frantic mission to catch up.
