Backstory
(New Student) Growing up in an old, cheap apartment was rough. Kids at school weren't the nicest, and my shy, awkward exterior didn't do me any justice. My mother was the only one at home besides myself, though I might as well have been alone. She worked jobs day and night, only come home to sleep or shower. What happened with my father is unknown. My mother said when he found out she was pregnant, he left quicker than she could protest. Although his whereabouts are unknown, a letter was left that was labeled for me to receive on my 11th birthday. Excitement, curiosity, and anxiety followed me around as I awaited for the day to come. Finally, the day came. I was up before the sun, slowly creeping my way around the piles of books that littered my floor, scared to wake my mother. I quietly opened the door before practically jogging on my toes to quicken my pace. I made my way to the living room, not having to go far because of our small complex, before hesitating as my hand gripped the metal knob that was screwed into the drawer. I didn't why I was hesitating, but my heart pounded in my ears and I felt like a huge spotlight had been placed on me, like an audience was on the edge of their seats, impatiently waiting for my next action. I counted down in my head, '3...2...1' before ripping the drawer open, wincing as it creaked. But when I opened the drawer, another letter accompanied it, it's parchment and red wax accessory standing out against my dad's aged, wore letter. It laid there delicately, like it had been purposefully put there. I quickly grabbed them both before opening my father's first, still glancing at the new letter as I read his. "Hello, by the time you're reading this, I'm probably long gone, but please, find it in your heart to understand my inexcusable actions. I left to protect you, to protect your mother, though I don't how successful I was. I'm not going to beat around the bush because the headmaster works quicker than a cheetah can run, but I'm sure your letter will already be in your possession as you read mine. To put it lightly, yet bluntly, I am a wizard. This therefore means that you are too. But before you fret, because if you're like me you're an over thinker, (this is true) Hogwarts, which is a school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is the most protected, most civilized school you will ever attend. It contains some of the most bizarre and wonderful people, and the skills you obtain and the lessons you learn will stick with you for the rest of your life. I know you probably loathe me for abandoning you and your mother, but if you can promise me one thing, do your best with your education as you can, and stick to your dreams." My eyes stared at the slightly wrinkled letter in shock, not knowing what to think. I gingerly sat down the letter and eyed, what I imagined was, my Hogwarts letter, before swallowing and gently removing the seal. My breathing danced to the beat of my heart as I read the letter, and that's when my life changed forever.
