Backstory
In 2015, I was sorted into Gryffindor. This confused me, of course. I was the first Gryffindor in my family. My mum was sorted into Ravenclaw in 1991, my dad was sorted into Hufflepuff in 1989, and my older brother was a Slytherin sorted in 2009. My mum was a half-blood and my dad was a muggle-born so while they knew of the prejudice of Slytherin, they didn’t mind him being in it so much. When I was sorted into Gryffindor, my parents didn’t believe me when I told them over letter. My older brother, who was a seventh year, had to explain to them that I really was. Nearly everyone had expected Ravenclaw, which wasn’t so far off... I was a hat stall. One of the first in a very, very long time, according to our Headmistress, Professor McGonagall.
James Potter and I became friends on the train. I expected him to be arrogant, considering that his dad is the famous boy-who-lived, but he was far from it. He was kind and introduced me to his god-brother, Teddy Lupin. (I later found out that he and my older brother were friends... kinda) Teddy was nice and it felt good to be welcomed into a house that I didn’t know much about, other than the fact that it’s for the brave people, which I’ve never been labeled as.
Now, I’m in my 4th year at Hogwarts. James and I are probably best friends and I couldn’t be happier. My younger brother got sorted into Ravenclaw last year, making me the odd ball out, but I don’t care much anymore. Albus, James’s younger brother, is a year under us and he’s been sorted into Slytherin, something none of us had been expecting! Harry even became Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor two years ago, in James and I’s second year. He’s very kind and doesn’t use harsh words with us when we slip up and I get invited over for holidays sometimes.
Harry is beginning to prepare us for next year. He says that we need to start thinking about what we’d like to be when we get out of school and I think I’d like to be an Auror or a Professional Quidditch Player...
Oh, yeah! I forgot to mention. James and I made Chasers in our second year! Being on my broom, flying in mid-air is something indescribable. It’s the most amazing feeling in the world...
Psst... Can you keep a secret?
You can? Okay, good...
James, Albus, Scorpius, and I are beginning the process of becoming Animagus. James and Albus told Scorpius and I all about their grandpa James Potter, James’s namesake. Scorpius and I collectively decided that if they want to be Animagus to honor their Grandpa James, then we’re going to becoming one too...
I read somewhere that although it might not always be the same, your Patronus might be your Animagus too. If that’s true, then mine’s a Tiger! (I learned the Patronus charm last year because James and I thought it would be fun to try since his dad did his in his 3rd year too.)
Anyways, I hope to see you soo!
Signed,
Your over-excited 4th year Gryffindor, Luke
