Backstory

My magical ability began showing when I was only four and due to being muggle-born, my parents didn't know what to do about it other than sweep it under the rug and act as if it was a dirty family secret that must not be spoken of. My parents' shame about me being a witch was what made me so surprised when I got my acceptance letter from Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, because their tone about it changed completely. They said they were proud of me and began embracing the fact that I'm magical. I guess that before the letter, they had simply thought I was the only person of my kind and didn't know a proper way to accept it other than denial. I try not to blame them, but those early years hurt. The deep shame I felt about being a witch began going away on the day that I boarded the Hogwarts Express. The multitude of other children my age excited to learn about potions and spells and magical creatures put me at ease. I could be myself here. I'm fortunate to be a Muggle-born because if I had been told about the traits of the four Hogwarts houses and what most people in each of the houses are like, I would have began feeling a different kind of shame when the Sorting Hat took almost no time at all to place me in Slytherin. I was allowed to embrace my school house without fear of it meaning that I was a bad person. Because of this opportunity, I love Slytherin house with all my heart and I would never want to be placed in another house. I do have the characteristics, after all; I'm ambitious, clever, sarcastic, and determined. I keep a heavy veil of sarcasm over my personality to compensate for my shortcomings in socializing, so anyone who doesn't know me well should not take what I say seriously. I'm still in my first year and things are going well; my parents write me frequently with curious inquiries on what wizarding life is like, I've somehow been able to make a few friends despite my sarcasm, and of course I have some of the highest marks in every class, especially Potions. I try not to let people know how important doing well in school is to me, but it's fairly obvious by how much time I dedicate to the library. I've been called by many a Slytherclaw. I now feel so close to Hogwarts that I know once I am no longer a student, I will find my place in a job position here. It is my home.
