A half-blood girl with a loving Muggle mother and quite the excuse for a wizard as a father, Emma didn’t have a worthy wizarding example to guide her path through the Hogwarts experience. She almost refused her invitation to join the “School of Witchcraft and Wizardry” altogether in fear that she’d end up just like her father. Now that she’s here, she has a bit of trouble knowing about the goings-on of Hogwarts. Her professors tend to assume she’ll have learned at least something from her parents or friends, but when your only wizarding relative isn’t around and friendship with fellow witches was discouraged by your mother (a stab at protecting her) prior to Hogwarts, it makes it hard to gain anything beyond knowledge of magic’s existence. After running straight into the wrong wall in her attempt to reach her new school, she forced herself into a vow that she would take much more care in her classes and become more knowledgeable than her father ever cared to be. She would cure the family name of its laziness and mild misinformed malevolence.
