Backstory

(Younger Student) When I received my Hogwarts Letter that faithful day, I didn’t know what it would mean. I grew up in Rural Australia, Hogwarts was on the other side of the world! I had to travel as a Muggle on the flying metal bird, it was too dangerous to attempt any other form of travel for such a great distance. They considered a Portkey to London but the one from the bush to our closest city was bad enough. I was so sick and i didnt arrive on time, they thought i was lost. I had a lot of fun riding in the air-plain though. It was really strange to leave my home, the smells are different and i dont feel as connected to the Earth here as i did. I stay with 'family' over holidays but i have never met them before now. They are bit snobbish and they dont like muggles much. Always saying how horrible it must have been for me to be surrounded by them, that they are sorry i had to live so close to them. They look down on me because of where i am from. They just dont understand, i loved how i grew up. It wasnt ugly or dusty or any of the things they say. It was beautiful and green and Home. And i get very annoyed when they say we waste our magic on the muggles. They say we should leave them alone to solve their own problems or die out! As soon as i can i am out of here, and im going to turn my "great aunt" into a mouse and set the cat on her before i go!! I feel very small here. London is such a BIG city! When i first left to catch the air-plain, i thought Perth was big..it looks like a sleepy english villiage compared to your London!! And when i saw Diagon alley for the first time was a real eye opener. The coolest part of Diagon Alley was just seeing so much Magic! There were so many witches and wizards in one place i thought it must be everyone in your world had gathered there. It was totally new to me even though i have grown up in a magic family we are very, very isolated. There is so much to learn. My father runs a station back home. He grows wheat and runs sheep, the Muggles always praise him for his soil quality and how well his sheep thrive and look to him for advice. Some years his is the only field still producing anything which is such a relief to our small community. We also breed dogs. Muggles think they are just regular dogs but they are special, they bring luck to their owners. If treated well it is good luck. One year a bushfire wiped out everything..except for the farms with our dogs, they survived untouched..it was called a miracle. This is a harsh land and our family has always done what it can to help the community flourish since the day we came here. We arrived with the first colonists and free settlers to this continent almost two hundred years ago. I am very proud to say our family was one of the first magical families to settle here and we were a big part of the growth of the Swan River Colony.
Im a Pure-Blood, our family line can be traced to the Norman invasion. Dont hold it against me. I have always been around muggles and they are honest hard working people who will give you the shirt from their backs. When nature throws something at them they help one another. There have been a number of times i am amazed at what they can do without magic. I saw a man pick up a wall once! With his hands!! I miss my home. I miss my mother and father. I miss my dogs, i wish i could bring him to hogwarts with me. They said they might consider bending rules for me at first since i am coming from so far away, but then they saw him and got scared. He is NOT a Grimm!!! Most see him as dangerous and unlucky, and i am always told to get rid of him. But i was there when he was born and i saved his life. He is lucky to me. I miss the chorus of bush birds waking me everyday the most. I cant wait to graduate and go back. Then i can finally do my part to protect our community in the family tradition.
