Mattias Grainger

Backstory

I am a distant relative of the well-known Hermione Granger. Many years ago the surname Granger was spelt differently, but due to misspellings and unfortunate events the name changed over time. Our lineage can be traced back to the migration of the Celtic people from central Europe to Ireland around 500 B.C. After the mass adoption of surnames around 1400 our ancestors chose the surname Grainger due to the fact that they had become famous grain farmers in Ireland. The most well known Grainger was a man called Friar Grainger, who was born in June 1815 in Ireland. Friar Grainger had seen how popular and necessary potatoes were throughout the country, so instead of following his families legacy of farming grains he decided that he was going to grow potatoes. By using magic he was able to increase the production of potatoes and feed the entire country. But after many years of successful potato farming Friar Grainger had created many enemies who wanted to get into the business as well. Friar Grainger's biggest rival in the potato industry was a man by the name of Ronaldo McDonaldson. Ronaldo could not compete with Friar Grainger's potato production. In 1845 Ronaldo put a curse on all of Friar Grainger's land which caused all of the potatoes to develop the blight Phytophthora Infestans. This blight caused many of the potatoes to become inedible. This curse of the potato crops created, as we now know it, ' The Great Famine' or 'The Irish Potato Famine'. Since the majority of the population of Ireland did not know of magic or curses, they blamed the famine on Friar Grainger and his family. The entire Grainger family (except for those who changed their name to Granger and claimed to not be related) were forced out of Ireland where they soon migrated to America. Now my family has lived in hiding in America due to Ronaldo McDonaldson's large hold on the food industry in the country. And that is why I am forced to take classes online in the safety of my home instead of attending Hogwarts in person.
