Backstory
The Tale of Renga TosleyBorn to Ansa and Drow of the pureblooded Tosley family during the second coming of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Renga Tosley couldn’t have imagined the path he had just wandering into.
Due to the previous Tosley generation’s (Drow’s parents) secret financial contributions to the Death Eater’s cause, the Tosleys lived a luxurious life much to the disdain of those against Him. Even after His assumed death their life of opulence continued. Drow didn’t really care for all the royal treatment. Rather, he had his eyes locked solely on his studies. Well… aside from his blatantly obvious crush on Ansa, the cute nerdy girl who sits next to him in Divination.
In his second year, Professor Trelawney had the class pair up and attempt to peer into the heart’s desire of their partners. Finally taking his chance Drow managed to nervously convince Ansa to be his partner. First, Drow peered into the orb attempting to see Ansa’s. A few silhouettes appeared: a man standing next to a woman with his arm around her shoulder, the woman holding a baby and laughing at a young girl and young boy playing with silly magic toys.
Laughing, he looked up to see Ansa covering her face with her hands, a little blush clearly visible between her fingers. She quickly changed the subject and peered into the orb to get some dirt on Drow, hoping to make them even. As clear as could be she saw herself looking back. At first she thought it was her reflection, but moving around immediately made it obvious the image was coming from the orb itself.
Ansa rapidly looked up at Drow and almost mistook him for a beet he was so red. He stood up fast enough to knock his chair over. As he turned to leave, Ansa grabbed his arm. Drow looked back at her to see her rosey face purposefully avoiding from him. It began here.
After that moment, the two doves spent every free moment with each other. Of course the Tosley family objected, but throughout the years Drow had acquired more than enough sway in his family to coerce them into submission since, although Ansa wasn’t from a well-known magical family, she was at least a pureblood.
In their sixth year at Hogwarts Ansa found out that she was with child. Drow was excited; Ansa was excited; pretty much both of their entire families were excited that an heir was already on the way. Their excitement lasted an entire month. Then He returned.
All pureblooded families had to make due on their oaths if they were to continue their lives of luxury. The Tolseys fully intended to do so, but Ansa stood against her lover’s reasoning that the baby would be safer if they were to submit to Him. After all, there’s no one capable of defeating He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. It’s impossible. Everyone knows that you’ll live longer by doing his bidding instead. Holding steadfast, Ansa eventually convinces him it’d be safer for them to distance themselves from the war. So they run.
Without Drow there to hold them back, the previous Tolsey generation returns to power and uses their full authority as part of the upper echelon in the Death Eaters to send squads after Drow and the heir. At the same time, because of the Tolsey family’s cruel war crimes and significant financial backing of the Death Eaters, those against Him send groups out to obtain hostages capable of stopping the family’s warpath; the hostages of course being Drow and the heir.
Thanks to their friends from Hogwarts, the two manage to stay hidden long enough for the baby to be born. In the cellar of the Lovegood residence he was born completely healthy, almost as if the magical world itself wanted at least a tiny bit of happiness to return to the couple: their new baby boy, Renga Tosley.
Having convinced her father to allow them to stay, Luna Lovegood helped Ansa and Drow care for baby Renga. Eventually the Death Eaters decided to use Luna to lure out Harry Potter, and lo and behold… they found one of their secondary objectives.
Ansa was killed on the spot, an example to make Drow and Xenophilius Lovegood stay in line. A long while later, Harry Potter and his group ended up in the same predicament, allowing for a grand escape. In part for revenge and in part to protect his son, Drow hands Renga to Luna and proceeds to fight back at the Death Eaters tailing Potter’s group. Once the group was for sure clear from the area, Drow used the strongest spell he was capable of to prevent the remaining Death Eaters from ever coming after his child again.
Now Renga was left utterly alone in this world.
After the war ended and as her final gift to her beloved friends, Luna decided to raise Renga as best she could. Given Luna’s whimsy this definitely lead to an entertaining and fanciful upbringing. Her kind nature helped Renga develop into a gentle boy with all the quirks that you’d expect. Probably some you wouldn’t as well.
