Yancy Granger is a young witch who just came into Hogwarts, to her surprise, she's sorted into Slytherin (although it has always been her desire — everything Slytherin fascinates her). She's a descendant from the Granger-Weasley bloodline, however, her father had a feud with her Grandfather and that's the reason why he chose to take up his mother's name.
Unlike most members of the Granger-Weasley family line, their family is more cunning, even Yancy as a child is more cunning than all her cousins so I guess though it came a surprise to her and to other people, it never really surprised her own family members that instead of being a Gryffindor, she's sorted into the what people often refer to as the 'snake house'.
Unlike most Slytherins though, Yancy is open to muggle and wizard relationships, given that she's a quarter muggleborn. And her mom who came from a long line of purebloods fully support this ideology.
And maybe it's the Granger in her that opts her to be more focused in her studies like no other, she also does not harm other people unless provoked and though she may appear arrogant and irritable at first glance, she's actually really sweet and helpful towards other, just often misunderstood because of her being a slytherin.
