Backstory

Wand: Wych Elm, dragon heartstring, 13 inches, surprisingly supple. Simple in its design, the handle is distinct from the shaft, and bears a small oval pommel. The wood is a deep mahogany, slightly worn, with two ridges, one a few inches from the handle, the other at the wand's midpoint.
Description: Tall for her age, coming in at almost 4'10, Emma has a gangly frame, her limbs slightly too long for her torso. Her brunette hair is often wild, frizzy and unkempt, falling just past her shoulders, but she seems to take no notice of it. On her face she wears a pair of black, thick rimmed cat eye glasses, which sit before her pale blue eyes.
Personality: Emma is an extrovert through and through, and excels both in small groups and large audiences. She is somewhat less confident when it comes to one on one conversations - her need to fill silences can sometimes be taken as domineering, and whilst her intent may be good, confidence can often be confused with arrogance, another trait she is not wholly without. Overall, Emma wants to do best by her friends, and has a fiercely competitive streak.
Background: Born to Harold and Jessica Wood, Emma and her older sister Alice grew up in the Welsh countryside, far removed from major towns and cities. Her father worked as a conservationist at the reserve for Common Welsh Green dragons, and would often spend large stretches of time away from the family home. Her mother remained mostly at home to care for their two children, though she did take great pleasure in growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, which she would sell at a nearby farmer's market. Alice, being seven years older than Emma, graduated from Hogwarts the year before her sister's start, a point of sadness for her. A true Gryffindor, Alice had wished she could have been around for at least a year to get Emma off to a good start.
