Backstory

My mother was married to a wealthy pureblood despite being a muggleborn. When she produced a squib son his family were determined to chase her away. She, fearing the arrival of the Second Wizarding War renounced magic and fled to the USA, where she remained undetected for many years. She had me with her muggle boyfriend at the time, and it wasn't until the Minsitry of Magic burst in on us last summer that I even knew magic existed. They examined me and told me I was a witch, not a squib like my brother and sent me on the first train to Hogwarts.
